Mishawaka has big plans for east side development project

MISHAWAKA, Ind. (WNDU) - It's hoped that Mishawaka's latest road construction project will turn out to be a path to progress.

Work is underway on Veterans Parkway on Mishawaka's far east side. It runs north off Douglas Road and provides access to newly annexed land near Juday Creek Golf Course. A nearby sign for the Juday Creek Business Park offers lots for sale of up to 25 acres.

As for what type of private development might be attracted to such a site, that will be left up to private developers.

"The market will dictate that we see that being a mix of uses, potentially health care, potentially some retail along the frontage, even some residential in there as well," Mayor Dave Wood said.

On the way already appears to be a hotel site with golf views.

The city of Mishwaka has a couple projects of its own planned in the area. One is to build a new water filtration plant. Another is to help put a new multisport facility in the area that would mainly host youth tournaments.

Veterans Parkway will eventually connect Douglas Road with Cleveland Road.
