MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. (WNDU) – Within 32 minutes of a robbery at a Michigan City gas station this week, police say they arrested the suspect.

Officers were dispatched to the Save-A-Lot gas station in the 1800 block of Franklin Street around 10:45 p.m. Wednesday, shortly after a 49-year-old woman reported she had just been robbed, according to a release from the Michigan City Police Department.

The woman reportedly told police she came out of the gas station and was getting back to her vehicle when a man approached her and grabbed her purse. She struggled to keep her purse, but he eventually ripped it away from her, which caused the victim an undisclosed injury.

After getting the purse, the man ran away, then got in his vehicle, "which was parked a few blocks away," according to the release.

When police arrived, the alleged victim was able to provide a detailed description of the suspect and his vehicle.

Shortly after disseminating the descriptions to other officers, another patrol officer saw the vehicle in the 5700 block of Franklin Street and pulled it over. Officers reportedly found evidence of the robbery in the vehicle.

Quayshuan Kelly, 27, of Michigan City, was arrested. He has been charged with Level 3 felony robbery causing bodily injury.
