UPDATE: Officials identify man killed in early morning shooting in South Bend

A man was shot and killed early Tuesday morning on South Bend's east side.
It happened at around 4:06 a.m. in the 100 block of North Varsity Drive, just south of the Morris Park Country Club.
When police arrived, they found a man had been shot. He was taken to a hospital where he died.
A woman was also in the house at the time of the shooting. She was not injured. Police have not commented on how the two were related.
St. Joseph County Metro Homicide has taken over the investigation.
Shortly before noon, the victim was identified as 42-year-old Keith A. Myers. An autopsy has been scheduled for Wednesday.
Several residents told NewsCenter 16 a shooting never had occurred in their neighborhood until Tuesday. One person recalled hearing five successive gunshots at around 4 a.m.
Living a few blocks away, Bo Turner, of Club Drive, said the area has little crime. He recalls two car break-ins over the past 21 years he and his family have resided in their home. Roughly eight months ago, Turner believes someone used a B.B. gun to damage the rear window of his van. Factoring the Tuesday shooting, Turner said he remains unconcerned about his safety, given his health problems.
"I'm happy I'm alive anyway with this cancer thing," he said. "I don't feel unsafe. I feel safe."
There is no word yet on what led up to the shooting or a possible suspect. No arrests have been made.
