Man seriously injured by falling light pole

PLYMOUTH, Ind. (WNDU) - A man suffered serious injuries after a light pole fell on him as he worked in a Plymouth parking lot.

It happened Friday afternoon at the Tractor Supply Co. on Pilgrim Lane.

Alex Blum works nearby Tractor Supply and said he saw the pole fall. In fact, he was the first one to call police.

"I was eating my lunch and on my break, and all I see is a pole falling," said Blum.

A preliminary investigation found that the man was an employee of Tractor Supply and was working on some trailers in the parking lot of the store.

"I just called and told them that there was a Tractor Supply employee that just had been hit by a light post," Blum said.

High winds caused a light pole to fall and hit the man, according to a Plymouth Police Department media release.

"The guy comes to work to make a living and that happens to him...unbelievable," said Victor Valt, a shopper at Tractor Supply.

NewsCenter 16 originally reported that Plymouth police said the man died from his injuries at Memorial Hospital in South Bend. However, we later spoke with St. Joseph County Coroner Mike McGann, who said his office has not been called, which means the victim has not died.

The victim's name has not been released.
