UPDATE: Man killed in Toll Road crash identified
Police have identified the man who was killed after a van rear-ended a semi on the Toll Road in St. Joseph County Monday morning.
They say 48-year-old Richard McNamara III of Valparaiso was driving the van.
The semi was merging into the right lane from the shoulder when, for an unknown reason, McNamara's van crashed into the semi, according to Indiana State Police.
The crash happened around 9:17 a.m.
McNamara was pronounced dead at the scene. The semi driver was uninjured, though shaken up by the incident.
The collision happened in the eastbound lanes of the Indiana Toll Road near Exit 72.
Eastbound traffic was stopped for approximately 25 minutes but had re-opened by approximately 11 a.m. The left lane was blocked for approximately an hour and a half total. Westbound lanes were not affected.
