SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - A man has been charged in connection with a crash in South Bend last week that left one person seriously hurt.

Carlos Iraheta, 36, is charged with causing serious bodily injury when operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

The crash happened on March 6 on East Angela Boulevard near Pokagon Street when the vehicle Iraheta was driving went off the road and hit a tree. Police say a 22-year-old passenger suffered a clavicle fracture, broken ribs and bleeding in the brain.

Meanwhile, Iraheta and another passenger were also treated for injuries at the hospital.

Iraheta allegedly told officers he had been drinking prior to the crash, and he registered a blood alcohol content of 0.12 on a portable breath test.

His initial hearing is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.
