STURGIS, Mich. (WNDU) - A man has been arrested after police received a tip that he was storing a body inside his apartment.
Sturgis police were dispatched late Wednesday night to the 200 block of North Maple Street to investigate the tip.
Officers say they were given consent to search the home.
Evidence was found that led to the activation of the St. Joseph County Major Crime Scene Task Force, and a search warrant was executed at the home.
Police say a 35-year-old Wade Allen was taken into custody without incident. He has been charged with "homicide – open murder" and "dead bodies – disinterment & mutilation."
The victim has been identified as Kelly-Jien Warner-Miller. Police say she had not been previously reported missing.
“Every night since I have been here for the last two months, I have heard this house, this kind of stuff happening every night," said Molly Saintclaire, who lives directly behind the apartment.
Samuel Medina, who lives two blocks away, said he didn't know Allen but said there were warning signs leading up to the day the body was found.
“I always see cops coming here because I come here sometimes and I hear there is a lot of arguments going on in there, but I never thought it was going to end up like that," Medina said.
The Sturgis Police Department is continuing to investigate this case.
Allen is due in court for a preliminary examination on June 4 and on June 11 for a preliminary hearing.
