GOSHEN, Ind. (WNDU) A local blogger from Goshen has turned her side hobby into a thriving business. When Erin Schrader launched her blog, Living in Yellow, she was looking for a way to document fun things she did on the weekends, funny stories and tips and tricks. "I was working full time at a credit union and was really just looking for a side hobby to do and express creativity," said Schrader. She didn't even tell her family and friends about the blog at first. After Schrader started sharing the blog, it became a hit.
Living in Yellow has nearly half a million subscribers today. "Living in Yellow is a fashion and lifestyle blog," said Schrader. "We as women especially are not just one dimensional creatures, we have a lot of interests."
Living in Yellow soon caught the eye of one of Erin's favorite brands to shop. The company Gibson, who sells their lines to Nordstrom, reached out to the blogger and asked about how the two could work together. Schrader pitched the idea of collaborating on a clothing line and in March of 2018, released the first collaborative clothing line with Gibson. Nordstrom soon picked up the line to sell on their website.
After a successful first clothing line, Gibson and Living in Yellow decided to launch their second clothing line. This line is designed for optimal comfort and style. "For our cozy collection, there are 11 pieces that you can wear at home or also wear out," said Schrader. All of the pieces are under 65 dollars.
"One thing that we've strived for in this collection is to make pieces that work for the everyday woman," said Becca Grabner, Creative Director at Living in Yellow. The collection is designed for woman on the go or lounging around at home. "She is running her kids around, or she's working or she's a stay at home mom, she wants pieces in her closet that aren't going to go out of style and she can wear it anywhere," said Hannah Campbell, Sales and Product Specialist.
Schrader said she still can't believe just how successful the blog has become. "I think the coolest thing that we do here is the relationships that we get to build online," said Schrader. "To know it isn't just one person but half a million women that we have the ability to speak to everyday is such a blessing and makes our job so fun and why we do what we do."
There aren't a lot of successful bloggers in northeast Indiana and the team at Living Yellow say they're thankful they get to impact so many women across the nation from their hometown. "I love the fact that I get to do something that I love and still get to live in such a warm and friendly environment," added Grabner, a Michiana native. "It's pretty surreal and I think not often do I sit back and look at what we're doing," said Schrader.
