La Porte PD mourns after K-9 who provided 5 years of service dies

La PORTE, Ind. (WNDU) – The La Porte Police Department is mourning the loss of one of its K-9s, Rambo, who became a member of the department in 2013.

Rambo died Friday, March 15, following a diagnosis with lymphoma. He was German shepherd-Belgian Malinois mix who was responsible for 446 free-air sniffs, 88 drug arrests and nine criminal apprehensions. He also recovered items that were thrown away or stolen, as well as evidence, on several occasions.

Rambo served the department for five years, working both as a narcotics and patrol K-9. He and his handler, La Porte Specialist Matt Drangmeister were trained and certified before going into active duty in December of 2013.

The La Porte Police Department thanked the community for its show of love and support for Rambo and the department's whole K-9 program. They also thanked Drangmeister and his wife, Patty, for their love and devotion to Rambo.
