SOUTH BEND, Ind. Jiffy Lube offers a program to its employees to help them get through tough financial battles and the highs and lows of life.
"Growing People Through Work" is offered to every employee and is a top selling point for potential hires.
Louis Mendez, district manager of Jiffy Lube, said the program has been a philosophy since 1979 when Jiffy Lube actually got started.
"As long as the company has been around, we've always been oriented in that sense of taking care of our people and helping them with whatever they need when we can, of course," Mendez explained.
It's a program that's helping hundreds of people like Derek.
"We needed a second car because we have a son who has special needs," General Manger Derek Davis said. "At the time, Jiffy Lube had a vehicle that was able to be purchased."
But that wouldn't be the only time the program helped Derek and his family. When the family needed to move to South Bend for their son's treatment, Jiffy Lube was once again there to help.
"They gave me a $1,000 loan for moving expenses," he said. "They allowed me to have the time off work to move properly and settle in."
"No other company offers what we do," Mendez said. "It makes our employees feel really good and apart of something."
Mendez and Davis hope more companies follow suit and help their employees.
