NOTRE DAME, Ind. (WNDU) - The Notre Dame women's basketball team is back on campus Monday after a heartbreaking loss in the national championship Sunday night against Baylor.
Fans showed up to campus just after noon to show their support for the Irish, who mounted a massive comeback against the nation's top-ranked team. But in the end, they lost by one point to Baylor, 82-81.
Understandably, there were no smiles from the Irish as they hopped off their bus Monday afternoon, but fans say the team still has a lot to be proud of this season.
"They work so hard," one fan said. "And they fought back, which is what we've always loved about them, because they just are so feisty and always come back. They did, so they have no shame. They did fight to the end, and we we're really proud of them"
The Irish finished the season with 35-4.
