Indiana girl finds newborn baby in bushes
Elysia Laub was playing bootcamp in her back yard in rural Lowell, Indiana when she stumbled upon something in the bushes.
"I look over and see this pink thing kicking its legs," Laub said.
For a moment she thought it might have been a baby pig, but when she heard the cries, she knew it had to be human.
"I ran in the house as fast as I could," she said.
Eylsia told her mom, and out she came.
What they found in their yard was a newborn baby girl.
“The baby was crying and flailing,” said Eylsia’s mom Heidi, “but she didn't have any mucous around her nose or mouth."
They immediately took her inside.
Elysia called 911 while her mom tended to the newborn.
Lake County officials say Elysia is a guardian angel, and her mother agrees.
"Had she not been playing in her yard, something more tragic could have occurred," said Lake County Sheriff John Buncich.
"This is a miracle we found her,” said Heidi. “God put my daughter out there to save that baby. She is fine. This is really a good story."
The baby will be placed in a foster home as authorities continue searching for the mother. They're also reminding people about Indiana's Safe Haven laws.
