It was called a historic gathering of Indiana clergy, and it took place Friday on the campus of Saint Mary’s College.
About 50 like-minded faith leaders discussed the problems faced by Indiana families and the role they might play in the search for solutions.
The event was sponsored by a group called Faith IN Indiana which is most interested in criminal justice reform, immigration, and voter empowerment.
“We can’t sit on the sidelines, I mean what this country is going through right now, people of faith are going to have to make some choices and stand very firmly in their place,” said Faith IN Indiana’s Juard Barnes. “We’re not focused on any particular party political party, we're focused on values and if people are in trouble, and if people are being marginalized and thrown away, then we're standing up for that group of people.”
Faith In Indiana states that people of faith played a large role in the defeat of a proposed Ice immigration detention facility in Elkhart County.
