UPDATE: Indiana State trooper shot inside Granger home, son in custody

GRANGER, Ind. (WNDU) - An Indiana State Trooper was shot inside his home Thursday night, and now his young son is in custody on a preliminary charge of attempted murder.

The trooper has been identified as Matt Makowski.

According to police, the shooting happened at around 11 p.m. Thursday at a home on Conover Drive in Granger. Makowski was off-duty at the time.

His son has been detained at the Juvenile Justice Center on an attempted murder charge. Makowski suffered one gunshot wound to his lower body, and is in semi-stable condition at the hospital after undergoing surgery.

Because he is a minor, authorities are being careful with what they release. However neighbors tell WNDU they’re shocked, but not surprised.

Off-camera, several parents described the fifth grader as aggressive, violent and even manipulative. They say he viciously targeted at least one child last year, and has even threatened adults.

County authorities have not validated these claims but say, if true, they will investigate.

Hours after the shooting family, and possibly others, have visited this house, none ready to talk about what happened.
