Indiana National Guard mourns the loss of a soldier

The Indiana National Guard is mourning the loss of one of its soldiers.

Sergeant 1st Class Mark Boner died early Saturday morning in Fort Hood, Texas. He was from Ft. Wayne.

He served as an automated logistical specialist with the 38th Sustainment Brigade.

So far, we don’t know how Sgt. Boner died.

Boner served in Iraq in 2009 and received several awards during his time in the National Guard.

Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb is sending his condolences to the National Guardsman's family and friends.

In a statement he said, “Throughout his military career, Sgt. 1st Class Boner was recognized for his dedication to duty, love for family, and selfless service to his country. Words cannot express the depth of sorrow I feel for his family, especially his children and grandchildren."
