With Aug. 11, or 8/11, coming up Saturday, Indiana 811 is reminding Hoosiers to call before they dig.

811 is the state’s free call-before-you-dig service. Across the nation, an underground utility line is damaged every nine minutes, and that can be prevented by calling before you dig.

In order to be sure you can steer clear of underground utility lines, Hoosiers may call 811 or visit

at least two full business days before digging projects. That will allow underground utility lines to be marked.

In celebration of 8/11 Day, Indiana 811 will be out in full force at the South Bend Cubs game against the Lake County Captains Saturday. That game begins at 7:05 p.m., and gates open at 5 p.m.

Indiana 811 is also coordinating with the South Bend Cubs to give away 811-sponsored locker figurines to the first 1,000 fans to arrive.
