The Indiana State Police want to remind people of some common scams seen this time of year after they say their Bremen Post has been contacted almost daily by concerned residents.

They say an IRS scam in which a caller claims you have unpaid taxes is prevalent right now. Scammers will direct you to buy prepaid debit cards or wire money.

There's also the "grandparent scam," in which you'll actually get a call from someone posing to be a grandchild in need of cash for an emergency.

And then there's the "lottery scam," which claims you've won the lottery through a phone call or email. But in order to claim your ticket, you'll have to send money.

Officials say you should never give out personal information such as birth date, Social Security number or credit card number.
