'Game of Thrones'-inspired pet adoption event kicks off

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - The Humane Society of St. Joseph County kicked off an adoption event Wednesday that will last until Saturday.

The "Game of Thrones"-inspired event, "For the Homes," got started around noon Wednesday. The organization will waive the adoption fee for cats a year or older with the donation of six or more cans of cat food.

There's also a 50 percent discount off select "dire wolves" – or, in this case, shelter dogs – with a donation of six or more cans of dog food.

They also have two pigs available for adoption.

"Every part of the year is a great time to adopt an animal," adoption specialist Sarah Myers said. "But right now, with the weather warming up, it's a great way to get the dog outside on walks. Right now, cats are really important, because it is going to be kitten season very soon and the shelter is going to be become super overrun with cats. The more cats we can adopt out, the more cats we can move into adoption to get adopted by more families."
