UPDATE: 85-year-old killed in South Bend crash; victims identified

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) An 85-year-old woman died after a crash at Jefferson Boulevard and 26th Street in South Bend.

It happened around 3 p.m. Thursday.

The woman, who was identified as Patricia Sandilands, was transported to the hospital and pronounced dead, according to a St. Joseph County Fatal Crash Team release issued Thursday night.

Willard Sandilands, 90, was driving west on Jefferson in a 2005 Buick LeSabre with his 85-year-old wife as a passenger. As he was turning left onto 26th Street, his vehicle was hit by a 2013 Chrysler 200 headed east on Jefferson.

The 90-year-old was taken to the hospital where he remains in the intensive care unit.

The 57-year-old driver of the Chrysler, Karen Siderits, was not hurt.

FACT is leading the investigation and looking into the cause of the crash.
