UPDATE: FACT investigates crash at Cleveland and Grape; 2 hospitalized

MISHAWAKA, Ind. (WNDU) – The St. Joseph County Fatal Crash Team is investigating after a crash near the intersection of Cleveland Road and Grape Road, just north of University Park Mall.

Around 5:40 p.m., crews were called to a two-car collision on Grape.

Investigators at the scene told NewsCenter 16 a tan Hyundai driven by 32-year-old James Voreis was leaving a liquor store north of the intersection with Cleveland and pulled into the path of a northbound Honda driven by 18-year-old Matthias Weltz. The Honda T-boned the Hyundai.

Vories suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries. Weltz was unhurt, but his 15-year-old female passenger suffered a badly broken leg.

Investigators said alcohol may have been a factor, but they must wait for toxicology results before a final determination can be made.

Grape Road north of Cleveland was closed for about three hours Tuesday night.

The crash remains under investigation.
