ELKHART, Ind. (WNDU) – A woman has been arrested for the murder of Johnny Mullins, whose body was discovered Monday.
Cindy Goodwin, 50, of Visscher Drive in Elkhart, is the woman in custody.
The arrest announcement comes after Mullins' body was found in the woods behind an apartment building. Police had been called about a possible shooting in the area.
Johnny Mullins was known by many as the karaoke DJ at My Dad’s Place, a bar and restaurant just off SR 19.
He was a man who made people smile, and that’s what family members say they’ll miss the most.
“They’re just going to miss his smile, his smile just kind of made everybody happy,” said his sister, Lisa Hassett. “You’re just kind of in a good mood if he was around.”
Family member, loved one, friend. Johnny Mullins was all that and more to those who loved him.
And as a father, he leaves behind two children.
“He adored them, he spoke highly of them, he was so proud of them,” said his girlfriend, Tory Taylor. “And he wasn’t afraid to tell anybody he talked to.”
His life was taken away this week, and now Goodwin is in custody in relation to his murder.
Police and Mullins’ family believe Goodwin is the person who shot and killed Mullins, a woman who the family says barely knew him.
“For me it’s worse because she didn’t know him,” said Hassett. “And if she did know him like how everyone else knows him, how could she have ever done this?”
And yet they believe Mullins’ case was resolved so quickly because community members stepped forward to give any information they had.
“They had an overwhelming amount of people that came to them and called the tip line and they said it was just very unheard of to have so many people want to be involved,” said Hassett. “And I think that’s a statement to how many people loved my brother.”
“I cannot thank everyone enough for that,” she added.

A fundraiser will also be hosted Sunday at 6 p.m. at My Dad’s Place.
