Several local police officers today were presented with the first awards of their kind: the Quiet Hero Awards.
The event was held Thursday afternoon at the Elkhart County Sheriff's Department.
The awards were presented by Ted Rueter, president of Noise Free America.
"Casey really believes in this cause and is very aggressive," Rueter said. "[This] is sending a great message to the people of Elkhart County to observe the noise ordinances or there will be definite consequences. So, Casey, here is your Quiet Hero Award."
The mission of Noise Free America is to elevate the issue of noise pollution with federal, state and local officials, as well as to educate the public about the dangers of noise pollution.
