A fire in the attic and roof of an Elkhart apartment complex brought a response from fire crews to help extinguish the flames.

The flames were showing from the balcony when crews arrived at Old Farm Apartments, according to the incident commander.

After a thorough investigation, officials say the cause of the fire is undetermined.

Firefighters found that there was fire throughout the attic and roof, though there were no flames within the apartment. However, officials say there were 12 apartments affected by the fire, and the occupants of those apartments were moved to other apartments in the complex.

The initial call came in at 3:54 p.m., and fire crews were on the scene within 5 minutes, the incident commander told NewsCenter 16. The flames were extinguished by 4:12, authorities said.

Maintenance reportedly got the building evacuated immediately. There has been a report of an injury, but it was not immediately clear if the injury was related to the fire.
