SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - A man apparently fired a gun during a robbery at a Walgreen's on South Bend's south side last month.

Dion Alexander, 46, is charged with the heist on Dec. 22. Court documents indicate a city police officer who was in his cruiser in the parking lot witnessed the whole thing through the window and made the arrest.

Alexander reportedly told police he was having a hard time paying his rent, and that his gun accidently fired as he cocked the weapon in an attempt to scare the store employee.

The employee was not wounded, although the bullet hit his pant leg.
