Community gathers to remember Daekwon Tobar
People came together Thursday night to remember a teen killed by gun violence.
Family members, friends and people in the community gathered to remember Daekwon Tobar, who was shot and killed last month.
Tobar is one of three 17-year-olds who've died from gun violence this year in South Bend.
At the vigil, people remembered Daekwon and called for senseless violence to stop.
"Violence is not the answer at all," Tobar's cousin Danisha Lovelady said. "Y'all taking away too many loved ones, and then at a young age. It's really heartbreaking. It's devastating."
"A lot of people are just a hair-trigger away from snapping, I really think," vigil organizer Michael Elliott said. "And if you happen to have a gun in your hand, you can't put that bullet back in once it leaves."
Thursday's vigil was organized by On Site Prayer Ministry.
