Child with cancer sells lemonade, corn to pay for treatments

Children might have lemonade stands to make a little money of their own, but one west Michigan girl has a stand for a different reason.

A 6-year-old girl from Holland is selling lemonade and corn to help pay for her cancer treatments.

Family members call her "Emerson the Brave."

The young girl was diagnosed with a brain tumor in June. Although insurance is paying for a lot of her chemotherapy and radiation treatments, it doesn't cover everything.

Once a neighbor learned the story behind Emerson's lemonade stand, he knew he needed to help.

It turns out Tim Hult owns a farm in Indiana, so he decided to give Emerson some sweet corn to sell.

"I'm a grandfather and have a grandson that's the same age, and you know, my heart really wrenches at what they're facing, their challenges," Hult said.

"Best corn ever," Emerson said.

Emerson will soon begin a clinical trial at a children's hospital in Ann Arbor. Her family says that trial drug has been shown to have some success.
