Falling bricks close downtown Mishawaka sidewalk

MISHAWAKA, Ind. (WNDU) – Damage to the façade and awning of a downtown Mishawaka building has shut down a sidewalk, at least temporarily.

Some of the masonry at the top of a building in the 100 block of South Main Street came loose around 6:13 p.m. Thursday, bringing it crashing down on a business' awning, according to fire officials on the scene.

No one was hurt, but as a precaution and as police and firefighters clean up the area, the sidewalk has been closed to pedestrian traffic.

Firefighters said it was not immediately clear if Thursday's windy weather played a role in part of the structure coming loose.
