The British ambassador paid a visit to South Bend this afternoon in an effort to promote a cleaner environment worldwide.

He stopped by the Studebaker Museum to take a look around at South Bend's history with the car industry.

The ambassador has been driving around the Midwest in the new "I-Pace," the first ever all-electric car produced by Jaguar, the biggest British car manufacturer.

The ambassador says it's everyone's duty to look after the environment.

"We've only got one planet we all have a responsibility to look after it and we all know that pollution is a genuine problem that air qualities do have a problem and we all need to do something about it," said British Ambassador Kim Darroch.

"Obviously we are very proud of our American vehicles but we can't help but admire a vehicle like Jaguar as well especially as we move into the electric age. We know that these (electric vehicles) are the future and I think the race is on to make sure that all of the best vehicle manufacturing companies around the world are advancing into that clean energy future,” said South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg.

The Jaguar is a futuristic representation of what the U.K. will look like by 2040.

The goal is to have all fuel and diesel-powered cars off of the road.
