Black Friday shoppers take over UP Mall
Hundreds of excited shoppers, looking to capitalize on Black Friday Bargains, began entering University Park Mall just after 5:30 a.m.
The crowds were not as heavy early on but they did aggregate as the sun began to rise as consumers looked to capitalize on deals seen only once a year.
“We spend most of the year prepping for this and this is the big day,” said Tyler Andrews, Dir. Of Marketing and Business Development at UP Mall.
“It’s kind of a toss-up, we look at the research and actually it was predicted, this holiday season shopping was going to be up 6.5% more than last holiday,” he added.
Among the shoppers included many youngsters, high schoolers, as opposed to the contingency of parents and elders looking to get a head start on their Christmas shopping.
“Because you get to shop,” said Kennedy, a teenage shopper who was up since 5 a.m. in the morning, explaining why she enjoys shopping on Black Friday. “I need to shop more,” she added.
University Park Mall will remain open until 9 p.m. on Black Friday. Deals at some stores will end at noon.
