Berrien Co. fraudsters claiming to be sheriff's deputies in latest scam

BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. (WNDU) - Police in Berrien County are warning residents about a possible scam in which a person calls households, claiming to be a sheriff's office deputy.

The scam artist will erroneously say that a warrant has been issued for the resident's arrest.

The caller is claiming that there's a new program in place where they can post bond by purchasing prepaid debit cards.

Police say there is no such thing, and if you receive a call to purchase prepaid debit cards, obtain as much information about the caller as possible before contacting police.
