UPDATE: Missing Benton Township man found in St. Joe River
Monday morning the Berrien County Central Dispatch received a call about a body found in Lake Michigan at the North Pier near Tiscornia.
A boater had been on the lake when they discovered the body floating. The United States Coast Guard responded locating the person who was deceased.
He was later identified as Michael William. William had been reported missing by family on May 10th and was reported last seen the night of May 8th.
Michael Fitzgerald Williams, 48, suffers from schizophrenia and depression.
Williams' mother said he was watching the Cavaliers game with her Tuesday the 8th when she fell asleep on the couch, and she thought he did, too.
She is hopeful you will keep your eye out for her son so she can have him back soon.
"This is the first car he had," Rena Wilkins said as she shuffled through old pictures of her son. "If he had to have a heart right now, I'd give him mine."
Williams has been missing since that Tuesday night.
"My husband woke me up said Michael went out the door and he went down the hallway and I thought he was going to come right back but he never did."
Wilkins said an associate picked him up from her place Tuesday night and gave him a ride to St. Joe.
"She said he called her back and told her to come and get him because he was frightened something was going to happen to him but she didn't go back," Wilkins said. "He would have called me and told me mom don't worry about me I'll be home such and such a time. I haven't had a call from him."
Police put out a flyer and worked hard with the family to find him.
"They've been looking everywhere, they've been nice to me," Wilkins said. "They've been trying to find him."
"Please, please let him come back home, please, please, please let him come home," she said.
Wilkins said she was making sure he took his medicine for his schizophrenia. The police said it could be hard for him to call if his symptoms are acting up.
The cause of death is unknown at the time and the incident remains under investigation.
