BREMEN, Ind. (WNDU) - If someone walked into where you are right now and pulled out a gun, would you be prepared?
With the growing number of active shooting situations across the country, the Bremen Public Library wanted their community to be prepared for the worst, just in case.
If a shooter situation breaks out, you’ll have a split-second decision to run, fight or hide, preferably behind something that can protect you. So, you need to be ready to find your best option.
An active shooter situation can break out literally anywhere, but you don’t need to walk into a room and identify every exit sign. Listen to your gut and be aware. If something feels off, it could be, so maybe look around you.
But humans are creatures of habit, so chances are you go to the same places a lot. If there’s a place you frequent, that’s a good place to know where the exits are and where you can hide so you can be ready to run, hide or fight if something does happen.
“It can happen wherever, so you can’t say avoid this or this or this," Indiana State Police Sgt. Ted Bohner said. "It can happen absolutely anywhere, because we’re dealing with human minds, and human minds are extremely unpredictable.”
Police say the absolute worst thing you can do is freeze up. So it’s important to have a plan in place just in case you find yourself in a horrible situation. Hopefully, you never will.
