SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - Dozens of caregivers and organizations were recognized for their commitment, dedication and hard work around the community.
The 23rd annual REAL Services Age of Excellence Awards were presented at Century Center Tuesday. The event had a record-breaking crowd, with more than 1,000 people attending.
The keynote speaker was none other than former Notre Dame football coach Lou Holtz.
Some of the awards that were handed out included business of the year, given to Senior1Care, and caregiver of the year, which was awarded to Linda Perri, who is the caregiver for two of her family members.
"You can't repay people that have worked so hard to help other people, maybe the less fortunate," Holtz said. "To give them dignity and strength and independence, this is so important in life."
For those who may not have known, NewsCenter 16's Terry McFadden has emceed the event every year since its inception.
