Man shot in SB deadly police-involved shooting identified

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) --- The man shot in a deadly police-involved shooting in South Bend has been identified.

According to County Metro Homicide, he's Eric Jack Logan, 53, of South Bend.

The shooting took place Sunday morning around 3:30 a.m. near Central High Apartments.

Detectives said an officer was responding to a suspicious individual, who was reportedly going through cars near the apartment complex.

The officer then responded and engaged with Logan, who was partly in a vehicle in the Central High Apartments parking lot. Logan allegedly then left the vehicle and approached the officer with a knife raised.

Homicide investigators state the officer reportedly fired his gun, hitting Logan.

Logan was in critical condition when he was taken to the hospital, where he later died.

The officer was treated for minor injuries and discharged.

Per protocol, County Metro Homicide is investigating.

An autopsy for Logan is scheduled for June 17 in Fort Wayne.
