OSCEOLA, Ind. (WNDU) – One person suffered serious injuries after a car crashed into a utility pole in Osceola, causing a power outage that, at its peak, affected more than 3,600 customers Monday night.

The crash happened around 9:45 p.m. near the intersection of Lincolnway West and Chestnut Street in Osceola. The collision reportedly caused a transformer to catch fire.

Police on the scene said the car was headed east on Lincolnway when it hit the pole and the transformer caught fire. Given the danger of the situation, crews reportedly worked quickly to get the two occupants out of the car.

Both were transported to the hospital for treatment, including one with serious injuries.

Power was fully restored by about 12:20 a.m. Tuesday.
