1-year-old Jason Whitelow Jr. and 5-year-old stepdaughter Cataleya Arellano died in a house fire on the 100 block of Montgomery Street, around 1 a.m.

Jason Whitelow, the father, said they had moved into the house about a year and half ago and never had working smoke detectors, according to our sister station WTHR.

His fiance, Marlem Sosa escaped the fire by jumping out of a window with their newborn baby, Nayvien Whitelow, in her arms.

Sosa was taken to a hospital in Fort Wayne. Nayvien was taken a hospital in Indianapolis in critical condition.

Longsport Fire Investigators are trying to figure out what caused the fire, but they say it might have been electrical.
