Suspect caught in Michigan City deadly shooting

MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. (WNDU) – The suspect in a deadly shooting in Michigan City is now in police custody.

Michigan City police and members of the LaPorte County HIDTA Drug Task Force brought the 16-year-old suspect into custody around 9:45 p.m. Tuesday.

The suspect is expected to be identified following his probable cause hearing.

Police say multiple gunshots erupted around 12:53 p.m. Tuesday in the 200 block of Karwick Road.

When police arrived on the scene, they learned the victim, identified as 18-year-old Dareon Brown, had been taken to the hospital by someone in the area at the time of the shooting.

Brown was pronounced dead after arriving at the hospital.

According to the Michigan City Police Facebook page, the suspect was taken into custody without incident just before 10 p.m. Tuesday night.

The department thanked the community for their help finding the suspect.
