Meteorologist
Courtney Jorgensen

Courtney Jorgensen joined the 16 News Now Weather Team in November 2017. She has spent her entire life in Michigan and Indiana, living in Michiana since 2005.

Ever since she was a little girl, she knew she wanted to be a meteorologist. At the age of seven, she was setting up a video recorder in the living room and using a hairbrush as a microphone to report the weather. In one distinct memory from her childhood, she recalls seeing a funnel cloud nearby out her front door and being the only one of her family members to seek shelter in an interior hallway while the rest of her family stared in awe at the sky. Even early on, she knew what Mother Nature was capable of and how important it was to share life-saving information with others.

During her senior year of high school, Courtney became the 1999 Michigan’s Junior Miss and was able to travel around the state; ultimately competing in America’s Junior Miss (now known as Distinguished Young Women). After graduating as a Valedictorian from Wayne Memorial High School in 1999, Courtney went on to attend the prestigious University of Michigan. (GO BLUE!) She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Atmospheric Science in 2003 and continued on to receive a Master of Science in Atmospheric Science in 2004. During her time there, she was President of the Society of Women Engineers and also the Chief Weather Forecaster for WOLV-TV, a student run television station. She was only the second-ever intern to be hired, up to that point, at WXYZ-TV in Detroit, MI and worked as the Associate Weather Producer for her mentors, Chuck Gaidica and Paul Gross, for two years.

Upon graduation, she took some time away from weather to work in corporate America and then onto non-profit work, her other passion. She returned to the green screen in 2011 as the Weekend Meteorologist at WSJV-TV (FOX28) in Elkhart, IN until the summer of 2016.

When Courtney is not filling-in for the other members of the WNDU weather team, she works as the Community Engagement Coordinator and 5K Director for Girls on the Run Michiana. She is passionate about their mission to inspire young girls in our community to be joyful, healthy and confident.

Courtney enjoys spending time with her large family (seven kids plus a grandson!), going to Disney World, visiting the beach, volunteering, puzzling, exercising, acting and singing.
