Indiana 2nd District candidate Lori Camp hosts fundraiser in South Bend
SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - Indiana 2nd District Congressman Rudy Yakym has gotten a lot of airtime on WNDU in recent weeks. He’s running against Democrat Lori Camp to keep his congressional seat.
On Monday night, Camp held a large fundraiser at The Brick in South Bend.
Camp, who works for a small software firm in South Bend, decided to seek the second district congressional seat when she found out no Democrat had thrown their hat in the ring to oppose the incumbent Republican.
Camp has garnered the support of a lot of local Democratic heavy hitters including South Bend Mayor James Mueller and former U.S. Senator and U.S. Ambassador to the Holy See Joe Donnelly.
“It’s kind of funny, and one of the things I say when I’m in meet the candidates is who would think that I as a Democrat am for less government intrusion in your life than the Republicans,” Camp said. “Because growing up, it was always the Republicans are small government. Well now, they want government overreach into our bedrooms, our doctor’s office, our churches, what we read. And so, if you are for freedom, you would vote for me.”
Lori Camp has served on the South Bend community school task force. She has been a longtime dive coach for South Bend Adams, Saint Joseph, and Mishawaka high schools.
She says she is eager to continue her service to our community as the next U.S. representative for the second congressional district of Indiana.
