SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - Notre Dame’s Blue-Gold spring football game is less than two weeks away, which will be the first chance for fans to see the big-name returners, as well as newbies.

But Irish Defensive Coordinator Al Golden made it clear over the weekend that spring ball is not for figuring out the depth chart.

Golden has gotten a chance to see the competition amongst the defensive line, the linebackers, and the corners. But he’s only looking for his guys to get better.

“We’re not really ready to set a depth chart right now,” Golden says. “We’re trying to learn the concepts. We’re trying to see what our best groupings are and how we want to move forward, so really we’re just challenging the guys to learn the system and improve on their techniques and just try to get better, and the depth chart and all that will sort itself out in July.”

The spring practice season will continue all the way up to the Blue-Gold Game on April 23.
