SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - Friday, 400 free weather radios were given out to St. Joseph County residents.

People lined up at the County-City Building today to get their free radio.

The radios were provided as part of a federal grant to the county.

The St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners and Emergency Management Agency teamed up to distribute them.

Commissioner Derek Dieter was excited about giving out these important, potentially life-saving radios to county residents.

“So they’re free, anybody come out, they’re a very good device to have in your house, so if there’s a real problem, or tornadoes go off, or stuff like that, you’ll be alerted,” Dieter said.

If you missed Friday’s giveaway, you’re not too late. More free radios will be given out on Saturday from 8 until noon at the South Bend Farmer’s Market.
