SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - The South Bend Lions are five games into their inaugural season in the USL League 2.

“I think it’s been amazing,” Lions defender Anthony Legendre said. “It’s been a great year so far. The coaching staff, the setup, the facilities, the teammates, everything so far has been amazing.”

The team was scheduled to play its first season ever in 2020 until the covid-19 pandemic altered those plans.

But now in 2021, the Lions are on the pitch for the first time.

“It’s a legendary start for this city,” Lions defender Bryan Silver said. “It’s great to get going with the guys and be able to represent the city. We’ve been missing a team for a long time.”

Five games in to the season, the team is 2-2-1 overall.

The team believes they’ve got some nice pieces on the roster this season, and they are just glad there is finally a soccer franchise in South Bend.

“I think it’s great,” Lions head coach Thiago Pinto said. “We’re really excited that we get to do this. I think our community has been wanting something like this. We’ve been ready for it for a long time.”

if you want to watch the Lions in person, South Bend plays Wednesday at School Field at 7 PM against Kalamazoo.

Tickets are still available on the South Bend Lions website.
