SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - One South Bend community is getting a brand-new basketball hoop.

It’s all thanks a donation by Dick’s Sporting Goods and an officer with the South Bend Police Department.

Officer Joe Cole would stop by the neighborhood in the 1300 block of North Adams Street and play basketball with the kids there.

One day, he noticed the hoop they were using was in need of a little TLC.

So, he proposed a plan to get those kids a new hoop.

“The way the world is now, people need a little smile on their face, people need to be happy, people need enjoyment, so I figured why not buy a basketball for these kids so they have their summer starting off right?” Cole says.

The South Bend Police Department helped deliver the hoop.

Dick’s Sporting Goods and Officer Cole split the final cost.
