Habitat for Humanity breaks ground on new home
ELKHART, Ind. (WNDU) - Wednesday night, Habitat for Humanity of Elkhart County breaks ground on a new home.
The recipient is Courtney Harris. She worked at Habitat for a few years.
She just graduated from IUSB with a degree in criminal justice while working full time and raising a 6-year-old daughter.
This is part of Habitat’s Women Build initiative.
A group of volunteers will start pouring the foundation next week and hope to be done building by the end of July.
It will be a ranch style home with three bedrooms and one in a half baths.
Courtney got to be a part of the design process.
She will have to make a monthly mortgage payment at a reduced cost.
Those payments are re-invested back into the program so Habitat can build more houses.
Courtney says she is thrilled that her daughter will have a safe neighborhood to live in.
“Giving her the foundation that she needs so that she is able to grow. And then just me leading by example for her. I graduated college. I want her to do the same, [to] finish school. That just gives her stability to be here.”
