SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - Notre Dame football in the fall will look a little bit different in 2021.

There will be several new faces, including a new quarterback under center, but there is one face that will be new to viewers at home.

NBC announced earlier this week that former Purdue quarterback Drew Brees will join Mike Tirico in the booth for Notre Dame football games this fall.

Brees is pumped for the opportunity for so many reasons, especially to call games inside Rock’s House.

But he’s also fired up because of the passionate football fans that reside in the Hoosier State. Brees has been around them in college and the NFL, and he’s excited to embrace the fans in Indiana once again like he did in West Lafayette.

“The passion of the fans in Indiana, what I loved was, it’s a shame that the Purdue-Notre Dame annual match up went away for awhile,” Brees said. “I hope it comes back in perpetuity at some point. I am really happy to see Purdue will be at Notre Dame this year. That will be a great match up and kind of renew that rivalry. But when I got to Purdue, we were playing Notre Dame every year. We were playing IU every year. Obviously the state is divided because you’ve got all of these alums from three schools all spread out and it just made for an incredible atmosphere.”

Brees will get to be in the Indiana atmosphere seven Saturdays this fall inside Notre Dame Stadium.

Of course, he’s excited to call Notre Dame and his alma mater Purdue on September 18.
