SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - The St. Joseph County Health Department are encouraging more people to sign up for the vaccine after an increased allotment.

Deputy Health Officer Dr. Mark Fox says the county’s allotment has been bumped up from 1500 vaccines per week to 2500 vaccines per week.

Fox says the increase has allowed for more appointments to open up.

He also says it’s part of the reason why the state made the vaccine available to the 65 older age group yesterday despite still having folks on the waiting list.

“I think it is that combination of seeing what proportion of the 70 and older have been vaccinated or are already scheduled, and then because of the increase of vaccine availability, the opportunity to open up more slots to accommodate another age cohort.

Dr. Fox says it is unclear when the state will lower the age group to 60 and older. However, anyone who is eligible to receive the vaccine right now can sign up by going to the Indiana State Department of Health website or by clicking here.
