Man charged after remains of Illinois woman found in LaPorte County
SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, Ind. (WNDU) - A Tennessee man is being transported to the LaPorte County Jail in connection with the death of 46-year-old Laura Wolfe, of Marion, Ill. Her remains were found in LaPorte County last fall.
The LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release that the suspect, Lynn Ware, Jr., 39, of Martin, Tenn. emerged as a person of interest early on in the investigation.
Last July, Wolfe’s family reported her missing from Marion, Ill., the southern part of the state. The LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office joined the investigation later that month after Illinois police learned Wolfe had recently traveled through the LaPorte area.
According to police, some of Wolfe’s belongings were found on South Shore railroad property in Springfield Township on August 21. A month later, police conducted grid searches in the area.
On October 28, a farmer found human remains in a corn field located on County 800 North, between County Roads 300 and 400 West. Police say this area was beyond the scope of the grid searches performed in September.
In December, the remains were identified as those of Laura Wolfe, with the LaPorte County coroner ruling the manner of her death a homicide.
Days later, a warrant was issued for the arrest of Lynn Ware, Jr. On December 31, he was taken into custody in O’Fallon, Ill., located near St. Louis, Missouri.
At least seven law enforcement agencies assisted in the investigation, including the FBI and the U.S. Marshal Service.
The LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office says the investigation remains ongoing.
