Vigil held for Marian HS grad involved in serious auto accident
MISHAWAKA, Ind. (WNDU) - Just a day ago, the outlook was bleak for 2018 Marian High School alum Gabe Davey, who was involved in a serious auto accident on Tuesday night in Florida.
On New Year’s Eve, loved ones reported Davey stood, began to talk, and recognized people. His extended Marian family came together Thursday for a prayer vigil to recite the Rosary, a Catholic meditative prayer, in honor of Gabe.
“There’s nothing short, from the medical staff to everybody we’ve talked with, there were medical professionals that they all say this is a Christmas miracle,” said Christian Davey, Gabe’s father, who FaceTimed the prayer group.
People gathered in the Marian High School parking lot, near a newly constructed grotto, to pray and send well wishes to the Davey family.
“Maybe it’s a miracle. Maybe it’s the power of our Catholic belief that we, you know, believe our Blessed Mother can intercede for us at the foot of her Son, and that’s certainly what I think many members of our community are gathering here tonight to ask Our Lady to continue to intercede for Gabriel, for his recovery the safety of his family, for just their well-being,” remarked Mark Kirzeder, Principal at Marian High School.
Family friend and vigil organizer Robert Kloska noted the importance of praying following someone’s unexplained recovery.
“When God performs a miracle like that, we better turn out and say thanks and pray for more, you know,” said Kloska. “We have grateful hearts.”
