SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - There are just two days until the first Notre Dame women’s basketball game of the season, and the first time we get to see Dara Mabrey in a Fighting Irish uniform.

Mabrey played at Virginia Tech the last two years before transferring to Notre Dame in the offseason.

Mabrey wanted to play at Notre Dame straight out of high school, but Muffet McGraw already offered Jordan Nixon a scholarship at the time.

But now, just like her sisters Michaela and Marina, Dara is Irish, and is glad she could transfer to Notre Dame.

“When the recruiting process started to take off, I was looking at offenses and watching film with Marina,” Mabrey said. “At that point, I was just like, ‘This is where I am supposed to be. This is my home.’ It was easy to call Coach Ivey and be like, ‘I want to come to school here.’ My whole life growing up, I have pictured myself in a Notre Dame uniform. I still talk about it with a few of my teammates. It hasn’t really hit me yet that I am able to get this opportunity to put on a Notre Dame jersey and go play for this university.”

Mabrey’s first game sporting the blue and gold is on Friday at Ohio.

Tip for Game 1 is at noon. The game will be streamed online on ESPN+.
