5 New York City area airports to close from Hurricane Irene
Air travel and public transportation in the New York City area are about to disappear -- at least until Hurricane Irene is no longer a threat.

Air travel and public transportation in the New York City area are about to disappear -- at least until Hurricane Irene is no longer a threat.
Aviation officials say they'll close the five main New York City-area airports to arriving passenger flights beginning at noon today.
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey operates the airports and says it trying to avoid stranding passengers.
Meanwhile, commuter transit systems in New York, New Jersey and
Philadelphia will also shut down.
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo says public transportation in New York City will shut down at about noon.
The shutdown will include city subways, the Long Island Rail Road, Metro-North Railroad and Access-A-Ride.
New Jersey Transit trains also will stop running at noon.
In Philadelphia, Mayor Michael Nutter says mass transit in the city and its suburbs will halt at 12:30 a.m. Sunday.
